Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown Against defending champion Dodgers
The outfielder contributed to the Astros claiming the championship in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their first World Series after the 1993 season by defeating the Mariners in the final seventh game of the American League Championship Series.
Down by two runs, the star outfielder hit a three-run home run in the seventh, propelling the sole Canadian team in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series win in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the defending champions, the team that is the reigning title, in the anticipated championship.
"It's incredible for our team, the city, Canada," commented Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "This is such an incredible feeling."
The veteran has now slugged twenty-three October home runs, placing him third all-time trailing only Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (27).
"I can't think of another person on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that situation except for George Springer with his post-season brilliance," remarked manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the early in the series, remain the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it's painful" following his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts this season.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the losing end of this one," he continued.
The Blue Jays secured the World Series on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Los Angeles in game one on this Friday.
