The President Calls Families of Injured Military Personnel to White House
President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has asked the family of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the presidential home.
He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Tragic Incident
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their memory.
White House Offer
The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the parents of both individuals of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” Trump addressed journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Reaction
Community members assembled over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both they had been working with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to aid policing efforts in DC.
Remembering the Soldier
“Sarah was the type of pupil that teachers wished for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the head of her former high school, informed the press. “She was sweet, caring and always willing to support those in need.”
Memorial details for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Government Revisions
Authorities have accused a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of homicide and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy led the administration to halt refugee claims and temporarily stop granting visas to owners of travel documents.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
The airman, a resident of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, as reported by the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor the governor said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Bondi stated on the program that she aimed to speak to the family.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with distinction, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had courage,” Morrisey informed the gathering at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
