The artist has handed over the entirety of his £25,000 honor cash to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to preserve the United Kingdom's grassroots concert spaces.

He was awarded the award on mid-October as his third album the album was declared the best record of the previous year.

Fender has decided to hand the money over to the trust, in recognition of the vital role grassroots venues had in his beginning days.

"I personally wouldn't be doing my current career if it hadn't been for all the performances I did around the region, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," stated Fender. "These venues are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these venues have shut down – roughly 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, major artists such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by including a modest fee to their ticket costs, which supports smaller concert halls.

He also participated, collecting in excess of £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to assist numerous local spots across the UK.

These funds helped venues that were confronting potential shutdown due to challenges stemming from flooding, fire incidents and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, court cases and sound issues.

Additional spaces received monetary aid in improving infrastructure and gear that helped musicians and fans.

"The idea that money from performances in big venues backs the independent spots, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just sensible," the star has stated.

The musician is among several artists to donate his Mercury Prize winnings to charitable organizations.

Back when the band won the trophy in the mid-90s for their album their work, lead singer Jarvis Cocker declared that the band would donate their prize money to the charity War Child.

That year, artist Ms Dynamite shared her bounty across a few good causes, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I contributed a grand to the center, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they needed updated gear," she told a publication.

Previously, Ezra Collective donated their winnings to the youth organization that supported their band, as well as other local music groups.

Additionally 1994 winners M People donated their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a close contact was diagnosed the condition.

"Receiving the award was ample," said vocalist the singer. "The cash was the bonus but we didn't need the cherry, because we had the cake. So our success affected another person's life."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had rescued two local spots in that region, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The Joiners in the city and the other in that location were bought under the community ownership initiative, which is backed by Arts Council England and supporters who acquire "shares" in the properties.
