Much like the recent storm tore through the north-west the night before, City overwhelmed Manchester United away at the Etihad Stadium. It was a convincing three-nil triumph for the City coach's side owing to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a performance that firmly established their leadership claims as they strengthened their standing at the WSL pinnacle.

Consecutive Losses for United

This result represented back-to-back league losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the first time since spring 2024, putting them a sizable gap off the table toppers with their title hopes hanging by a thread.

United’s ability to manage league and European soccer with a small squad has been a frequently analyzed issue since they earned a place in the European competition. Looking at the fixture list, it always appeared this was the matchday that would fully examine this capability. Unfortunately for the opposition, they seemed tired throughout, the memorable win against Paris Saint-Germain clearly having had an impact.
