Members of an Italy-based family of thieves who stole more than £1.2m valued of goods, among them from former Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak, have been ordered to return just £1 each.

Siblings Valentino and Giacomo, their female sibling Jela Jovanovic and her son Charlie Jovanovic travelled to the northeastern of England to raid multiple homes in April 2024.

The foursome were imprisoned for from a decade or less in May 2025.

At a criminal assets hearing at Newcastle Crown Court, Jela Jovanovic and the brothers Nikolov were ordered to pay back £1 each while Charlie Jovanovic must hand over over a thousand pounds.

Details of the Break-ins

The court previously heard the gang came by boat in the UK on March 27, 2024 and employed a campervan as their "base of operations", which they stationed at a service area and Durham service stations while utilizing a separate vehicle to scout out targets and carry out burglaries.

On March 31 they stole over one million pounds of items such as high-end fashion, handbags, jewellery and a honor from a residence on Clayton Road in Jesmond, while the owners were away.

The following night, the crew broke into a home on a private road in Whitburn, and took designer handbags, jewellery and shoes worth more than one hundred thousand pounds.

Following surveillance of the football club's training ground for 48 hours, they then acted at the residence of Sweden striker Mr Isak in Darras Hall, Ponteland on 4 April, taking £10,000 in money, sixty-eight thousand pounds worth of jewelry and the player's £120,000 Audi RS6.

The group, who were described by the prosecution as professional touring thieves, wore gloves and masks, switched their mobile devices on silent as they approached their objectives and attached a number plate, which had been taken from a garage in a town, on to their vehicle with elastic bands.

They were arrested in the Birmingham area on April 13.

Legal Hearings and Rulings

Valentino Nikolov had pleaded not guilty to the burglary plot but was convicted by the court, while his three relations had all submitted guilty pleas to the same charge.

At the proceeds of crime session, prosecutor the prosecution said every one of the burglars had benefited from their offenses to the amount of over £1.2 million, which was based on what the affected parties said they had had stolen.

But Charlie was the sole individual found to have any funds that could be "realised", specifically £1,135.50 which had already been seized by police, the judge was informed, with 14 days to be served in jail if he defaulted.

The other three had no assets or property so were directed to make a nominal fee of £1 each, with seven days in prison the result if the money was not paid.

Judge Spragg said if they were found with assets in the coming years, "such as operating in Italy in a sports car or owning a property", prosecutors could seek further action to "satisfy the amount due".
